A bebop scale is an ordinary seven-note mode with one chromatic passing tone slipped in — and that eighth note is the whole point. Run eight straight eighth-notes from a chord tone and the extra note keeps the chord tones landing on the downbeats (1, 2, 3, 4) while the passing tones fall on the upbeats. That's why bebop lines sound like they breathe with the chord instead of fighting it.
